Waynesburg, PA — Local artist Danielle Nyland of 1331 Studios has been selected to design and paint the Greene County Liberty Bell as part of the America250PA “Bells Across PA” initiative. This statewide public art project celebrates the upcoming 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States in 2026 by commissioning artists from every Pennsylvania county to create a unique Liberty Bell representing their local community.

Each bell will reflect the unique culture, history, and spirit of its county. Nyland’s design for Greene County incorporates imagery inspired by the region’s natural beauty, coal mining heritage, and the resilience of its people.

“It’s such an incredible honor to represent Greene County through this project,” said Nyland. “This bell tells a story about who we are—our deep roots, our connection to the land, and the creativity that thrives here. I wanted to create something that feels both historic and hopeful.”

The completed bells from all 67 counties will be displayed in the county they represent as part of Pennsylvania’s 250th anniversary celebrations. Greene County’s bell will be featured at the Greene County Historical Society Museum in Waynesburg, joining the many images honoring Pennsylvania’s vital role in the nation’s founding.

The America250PA Bells Across PA project is one of several initiatives designed to engage communities in reflection and celebration leading up to America’s Semiquincentennial. Each artist’s contribution serves as a reminder of Pennsylvania’s enduring legacy—and the diverse stories that continue to shape it.

Once the initial painting is completed, the bell will travel to the Greene County CTC in Waynesburg, where it will receive an automotive clearcoat to protect it from the elements while on display at the museum.

The bell will be unveiled on November 1 at 2pm at the Greene County Historical Society Museum on Rolling Meadows Road.

“This project is a beautiful reminder that every county—and every artist—plays a part in telling Pennsylvania’s story,” she added.

Nyland, a multidisciplinary artist, writer, and photographer, is best known for her darkly imaginative artwork that blends folklore, history, and natural themes.
