The Salem Art Gallery will host the opening reception for Inviolable Body, this year’s open call annual juried exhibition, on November 21 from 6 to 8PM. Among the selected works is Sovereign Flesh, a canvas print by artist Danielle Nyland, recognized for her evocative, narrative-driven style that blends surrealism, symbolism, and dark, atmospheric imagery.
Inviolable Body results from the gallery’s 2025 Open Call for Art, which invites artists from around the world to submit pieces exploring specific themes. The Satanic Temple’s Third Tenet, “One’s body is inviolable, subject to one’s own will alone,” inspired this year’s exhibition.
Artwork featured in the exhibition includes multiple media that interpret the theme through personal, political, and philosophical lenses. Sovereign Flesh adds a distinct narrative voice to the exhibition’s dialogue on autonomy and embodiment. The original painting was sold shortly after its completion in July 2025.
Guests attending the opening reception will view the artwork, meet the artists, and enjoy complimentary refreshments. Admission and parking are free, and the event is open to the public.
The Salem Art Gallery continues its mission to elevate unrecognized talent and foster a global community of artists through its annual open call and juried programming.
